- Cider Makers School at Kellogg Biological Station, February 27-28
-
- The Michigan State University (MSU) Cider Makers School will take place Feb. 27 and 28 at the Kellogg Biological Center in Hickory Corners, Mich. The cider school is co-sponsored by MSU and the Michigan Cider Makers Guild. An add-on third day for members of the Michigan Cider Guild is also part of the school.
MSU hosted one other previous cider school in 1998 that was well received and had a full house with 90 people, according to Bob Tritten, MSU Extension agent for Southeast Michigan and coordinator of the school. Tritten said he expects the school to fill up again for 2001.
The school will cover new sanitation techniques, developing standard operating procedures and beginning the process of developing a HACCP plan. Key speakers include Randy Worobo from Cornell University and the Geneva Research Station, Les Bourquinn and Jerry Cash from the MSU Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, as well as a speaker from the Food and Drug Administration.
The add-on day on March 1 is required for members of the Michigan Cider Guild, Tritten said. For more information contact Tritten at (810) 732-2177 or tritten@msue.msu.edu.
